Maintaining Balance Between Studies And Game

The biggest challenge in a young player’s life is to strike a balance between academics and sports. While sports are a passion for them, basic academic education cannot be sacrificed with. And both these activities call for dedication and time. To quench your passion you must sacrifice your time and physical comforts, but basic education gives you the cognitive skill and social standing that is imperative in life. So creating a balance between the two worlds becomes important.

Hockey team champs give some advice to budding players to manage and overcome such hurdles.

•    On a foremost note, a fixed schedule is the something common between all sportsmen, irrespective of the game they follow and this is something that will help you balance your studies as well. Plan your month in advance and try to stick to it. It will define your game and help you incorporate other activities including studies as well.

•    Small achievable goals on an everyday basis are far more feasible than hoping to do the impossible. After the game you have limited time and physical stamina but even a small achievement like completing one chapter each day will keep you motivated.

•    Learn to overcome distractions. A player of hockey team Delhi says, ‘the problem with players is they have to live a life of a hermit, with little time to spare’. Thus, whenever you are doing something you don’t necessarily like --such as studies-- then distractions aren’t hard to come by. Social media, smart phones and gadgets are a sheer waste of time that could be invested elsewhere.

•    Learn to say no. there are times when practice session is all about fun. The coach is not free and your friends are interested in something cool and interesting. But ask yourself, will it help your game or your grades? So, learn to say no when you see precious time being eaten up for nothing.

•    Use up the time that is wasted in commutation. While mom drops you to school or sports complex you can easily spend your time revising what you learnt last night.

•    And finally, don’t forget to take care of your nutrition. A balanced and healthy diet will help your game tremendously and improve stamina and concentration level as well.

Parenting tips for those whose children want to join sports

To put it frankly, sports is the genre, wherein each and every one appreciate, but when it comes to practical life, there are many guardians who actually find this concept of seeking a career in sports. I am certainly not against the fact that this is easy to seek career opportunities in this genre as there’s a high competition and surviving in such a cut throat competition and creating own identity is not that easy as it certainly sounds.

So if your child is interested towards sports and has a passionate attitude to build his career in hockey then i would say instead of making him step back , you should definitely lend him an encouraging hand and familiarize him about loopholes of this genre so that he do not have to suffer in any way. As a guardian, if you will support him and lend your helping hand by telling him that it’s not just that he has to take hockey player names and feel happy, rather he can also be an active participant and if he puts in his best efforts the day is not far when he will also be a part of hockey team india.

Apart from these things, studies is something that cannot be compromised with in any way, thus, familiarize your child with the imperativeness of studies, no matter which sports that he is interested in. tell him that even those who enjoy privileges of getting into hockey team india have studied and still managed to play well. There has to be equilibrium between sports and studies as it is nowhere written that those who are involved in sports has to give up or compromise with their studies in any way.

For aspiring hockey champs

Delhi-Waveriders :- Hockey Team of India
It is acknowledged that in such a time span where body is exposed to such a lifestyle where majority of us just can’t resist without junk food, obesity is a major concern. Even if you are just 15 or have stepped in your 20s, you can put on weight. But it is nowhere written that fit and healthy body is to be celebrated and if a person is obese, it is to be condoned. So, if you are passionate enough to play hockey or any other sports, but excess weight has put a placard of a big ‘no’ then you need to change your mindset. Merely admiring photos of hockey players and thinking over being a part of hockey team of India won’t be of any help. You will have to take immediate steps of action, exercise and workout as much as you can to be in the best physical condition.

I know some of you certainly do not entertain the idea itself of joining yoga classes, aerobic classes or doing cardio exercises, but each if these have potential to work magically against not only against excess weight, but can help in maintaining best physical condition.

As a whole, if you have been despairing over your weight by thinking that you just won’t be able to play hockey then here’s the time to throw baggage full of strains behind and play the good game of hockey enthusiastically.

HHIL : An attempt to rejuvenate hockey

delhi-waveriders :- hockey league india
The Hero Hockey India league is about to begin its new season early in the next month. The competition was announced earlier this year after it received a huge response in its inaugural season. It is a sports event cum entertainment package, power packed with vigor, glamor, sportsmanship, and a rush of adrenaline. The game is organized, following the team of IPL cricket tournament. It was an attempt to popularize the once famous game of hockey that has lost its glory in India.

The commercial aspects of HHIL would help to pump in the much needed resources in the game, and would reclaim the lost interest of the public. The event consists of six teams amongst which, Ranchi and Delhi franchise in Hockey India league came out to be the best teams, with first and second rank respectively. The big conglomerates own these teams and secure players for them through auctioneering. The event is expected to stir the crowd and rise up the fever, just like the old times.

The last match of the previous season played between hockey franchise Delhi and Ranchi was breath taking. It was a tough competition which the public thoroughly enjoyed.

India, the past unrivaled champion in hockey, lost its uncrowned kingship after the revolutionary changes in world hockey took place. The natural grass field was replaced by synthetic turf and the Indian Sports Foundations were too sluggish to respond to this change or to implement it and train our champions accordingly. It took them more than a decade to wake up and brush off the dust from the gleaming history of Indian Hockey.

In the present scenario, after the rejuvenated attempts of Indian team in Olympics and the recent bronze in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup; hockey called for some attention from the public. Thus, Hockey India stepped forward and launched the HHIL in collaboration with leading business groups such as Sahara India (Owners of UP franchise) and Wave Groups (Owners of hockey franchise in Delhi) in India. Hence we have our hopes pinned up, that if hockey got back the lost attention and resources, maybe we can recreate the past magic.

Delhi Wave Riders: The dominant force of HIL

delhi-waveriders :-hockey team delhi
Hockey India League or HIL is the official domestic franchise tournament in India. The league is organized by the Hockey India (The official governing body of Hockey in India), and the International Hockey Federation. The inaugural tournament occurred in year 2013 in India, and the league received great response from the hockey lovers in India. Among the teams participating in the Hockey League India, Delhi Franchise in Hockey a.k.a. Delhi Wave Riders is one of the most talked about team.

As the name makes it clear, the hockey franchise Delhi represents the city of Delhi in the tournament. The name of the team comes from the company that won the sponsorship rights for the team, which is Wave group.

The Wave Group paid the highest money to win the naming rights of the Delhi Franchise in Hockey. Wave group is now the sole sponsor of the Delhi team for HIL for the next seven years. The players for each franchise team were selected by the support staff of the franchise team in an open auction. Delhi Wave Riders purchased the Indian hockey team captain and the star player Sardar Singh for $78,000. This is the highest amount paid to any Indian player in the first season of HIL.

The Delhi Wave Riders team plays under the captaincy of Sardar Singh, while Ajit Pal (former Indian national hockey team) joins the team as the chief advisor of the team. Mr. Ajay Kumar Bansal is the coach of the hockey franchise Delhi. Delhi Wave Riders has the record of highest number of consecutive wins with 11 wins until they lost to Uttar Pradesh team franchise in the 12th game. The auction for the franchise rights was held in September, 2012. Wave group is a big business group with many industrial sectors under its subsidiaries, such as real estate, retail businesses, cinemas, etc.

In the first ever Hockey India League tournament, Delhi Wave Riders performed amazingly as expected and won 10 games out of total 14 games, two of them resulted in drawn matches. The team clearly dominated the league matches and reached to the final game of the tournament for the title of inaugural HIL winner. However, sadly they lost the final match of HIL season 1 to Ranchi Rhinos and came out runner up of the cup. In the entire tournament, Delhi Team scored a total of 41 goals in 14 matches, out of which highest 7 goals were made by Rupinder Pal Singh.

A visit to a Hockey Match

Sports are a great thing to do but somehow it has never been my cup of tea. I used to excuse myself through the games period pretending to have fake stomach cramps; or I would rather chose to sit in the detention room than keep coming in the way of the ball I was supposed to pass or catch or dunk or throw or god knows what; and yes I am talking about basketball here. The looks that I got from my teammates flustered me even more and the whole thing used to end up in a worse disaster. Thus neither playing nor watching sports ever amazed me.

Years after crossing school I never even once thought about sports neither did I see why other people and specially men do so. The crux of it and the true beauty of the sportsmanship were thrown across my way accidently. I was in the US for some personal work when my grandmother conceded me into visiting a distant cousin staying there, not realizing that unlike India America is a place where being in the same country does not do the trick, it’s a hell of a territory; Yeah! Grandmas can be like that.
Anyways so we decided to see each other at a hockey match she was coming down to see, near my place. It almost choked me out to think about the lack of conversation, a sports game wasn’t a thing that would make me all chatty and give me topics to talk about. But anyhow I agreed due to the convenience. As I reached and located her one block ahead in the coffee shop agreed upon, she hurried me off to the game saying she doesn’t wants to miss it. During the conversation in the car I realized it was no great event but a match of disabled players belonging to the Indian community.

The sight was shocking, you could see 22 players all geared up with their sticks and wheelchairs. A team actually called themselves “Hockey team India” and photos of hockey players were printed proudly at the backs of their wheelchairs. They were spinning on the field with such vigor, throwing out their souls in the game, that I was shocked to see the dedication. There in that moment I realized that sports is passion, it is all about integrity and pride and about glorifying masculinity and strength. These players were not just playing, with every movement and every drop of sweat they were proving their strength and courage to themselves. The Hockey team India won the match and it seemed that the photos of the hockey players behind their backs were equally proud and happy at the achievement of their fans.

I will not describe their disabilities or the hardships they were put through in achieving this, which I later learned through my sister who was a patron to that charity, for it would be disrespecting their efforts which were made only to prove they were perfectly able and ‘NOT’ disabled. As it is not about what those men lacked, it’s about what they had, much more than any of us have.
