Essential Tips For Hockey Tryout

The tryout season is here! While it is too stressful for the young players it is a crucial milestone which they need to pass before being selected to go ahead with their interest. With hockey season across the corner, the young players need to buckle up and make the best of the opportunity, says a member of the best hockey team in India.

While the process is both exciting and unnerving, the players need to put their best foot forward to prove their mettle and make their presence felt to make it to the top hockey team. Since the tryouts usually begin with the new academic year, the players need to manage a lot on their plate successfully says a board member of India’s Hockey League.

To make you better equipped with the hockey tryout challenge, here are some handy tips to ensure that you both perform and learn well along with casual fun to it:
  • It is not going to be the end of your hockey career

Note that even if you don’t make it to the team you are aspiring to, this is not the end of the world. There is no need to freak out; there are other teams as well which need players like you so strive for these. Failures always remind about the scope of improvement that you have.
  • Do not sulk

Needless to say, give your best. Get on the field and give your best shot. Believe that hard work pays. Do not indulge in dissecting every irrelevant detail once you are done with your session. What is done is done, stay positive and prepared for the result, iterates an eminent member of the best hockey team in India.
  • Stay prepared

It is better not to add any unnecessary anxieties to the week which is scheduled for tryout. Just double-check your timings for the tryout and look into your packing. Make sure that all the equipment’s you need to take along are packed.

A Parent’s Guide To Hockey For Their Kids

Struggling to find the perfect fit of a sport for your kid? Give field hockey a shot and both you and your child will be adopting not a sport but a lifestyle you will be proud of. If like me, safety is your concern being a parent of a lively and outgoing child, field hockey is your best bet. It is a non-contact sport where risks of hitting the ball or being hit by another player is minimal. Being a tactical skill, players will focus on game play and building technique rather than showing off their strength.

Or, if you are looking for a game to improve your kid’s health and social skills, this sport again beats others. Being a team sport kids bond up really well and constant activity keeps them fit and mentally agile, says players of hockey leagues in India. Well the benefits of it are immense and out of the scope of this particular blog. Here we will discuss what you would want to know first as you choose hockey for your kid.

Safety and equipment

Before your child can say turf, the first thing you would want to ensure is that he is braced up with proper safety equipment and gear, advices a Indian hockey player and coach. Well, for mums, nothing comes before protection so let’s start with the essentials. You would want to invest in a good quality mouth guard. They protect your child from mouth injuries by falling face first and also they are a must. If you will go for cheaper versions, they are uncomfortable to wear and may compromise safety. Next you need a shin guard and some nice cleats. Cleats in particular are a fashion statement.

So children may tend to overlook protection and quality. Well, the blend of both is pretty costly, and not advised for growing kids. Your job would be to keep them firm on quality footwear. If he is not the goalie, there is no other protection required. Just buy him a good stick and he is good to go!

Delhi Waveriders: Hockey Team’s Winning Story

The India’s Hockey League (HIL) was inaugurated during the year 2013 and has been recorded as the latest development in the sport of Hockey since history. The fascinating concept of a city-based franchise system like we saw during the IPL has proved to be quite a success, even in Hockey. Each city franchise featured players from different parts of the world who played alongside some of our best domestic players.

It would have been a crazy idea when it was first put forward. Who would’ve thought that the Delhi Waveriders led by Sardar Singh would emerge as such a successful hockey team? They were runners-up to Ranchi Rhinos in the first edition of HIL, while they bagged the title the following year.
AK Bansal, who was the team’s coach during the first season of HIL, says the success of his team owes to the flexibility and openness of all the players. They all learnt to adjust with each other, no matter how different they were culturally. Delhi’s hockey team consisted of big names from abroad like Jason Wilson and Matthew Gohdes from Australia, Mujtaba from Denmark, and Simon Childs from New Zealand among others. They played alongside some of our best players from within the country.

In the championship-winning year (2014), skipper Sardar Singh emerged as the disciplined midfielder, while Rupinder Pal Singh, Kiwi Steve Edwards and Aussie Tristan White playing on the defense side contributed to the team’s strong point. They collectively led Delhi Waveriders to win during the second edition of Hockey India League.

All in all, it was a great year for the Sardar-led team who choked the life out of their opponents by executing their strategy well. HIL might have changed the way Hockey is played around the world, thus bringing our national sport to get the attention it deserves.

How To Handle The Stick In Hockey

What’s the thing with stick handling in hockey? Read on to know more.

One of the most crucial stick handling basics is to keep your head up. After all, you can’t know what might happen while you are busy looking at the puck- your callousness might serve as a blessing in disguise for the opponent and he might get away with a shot or two, says a hockey player from the hockey team of India. You are likely to lose scores at the hands of the opponent you didn’t know was near you that ways.

Delhi-Waveriders - Hockey Leagues in India

The second tip that might come across as a game-saver is not to hold the stick too tightly, or as they put it in hockey-terms – use soft hands. Handle it gently so that you don’t tighten your grip. Think of it as an egg, and handle it carefully enough so as not to break the shell.

The next thing that ought to be taken into consideration, says a member of Hockey League in India, is the length of the stick. The shorter your stick, the easier it would be for you to pull across a shot, and the better it would be. On the ice, your stick should come up close to chin, and of the ice, a stick close till nose would be good enough.

Stick handling is not as easy as it may look like on the boundary. While practicing stick handling, try to reach out as far as possible on both the sides with the puck. This will help you maneuver the other players around and take over the game.

Stick handling is one thing that requires a great deal of commandment. That’s the first thing that should be on the cards in case you are planning to take up on the field.

Woman On The Field!

For many sports and woman are still are a distant and unrealized phenomenon. The chauvinistic universe which still does not admit and are sticking hard to the orthodox notions often create problems to the gateway for females for any contact with the outside world. It is almost derogatory how women are almost considered meek and fragile to make it to the top ladder for a long lasting career in sports and men, on the other paradigm are encouraged vehemently to pursue their career in sports. In such case Delhi franchise in hockey and other sports would have all been a man’s world.

If it would have been a generalized notion, there is no chance that woman would have been able to even step foot on the ground and the athlete world would have been a barren land with no female sport enthusiast or a member of hockey team of India. All accolades to the sensibilities of those who actively encouraged woman to come to the forefront and establish themselves on the pedestal in the sports world. Ours is a world where enthusiasm for sports parallels that to a firm belief in one’s faith and religion. Yes religion is the word! Sport is a religion in many parts of the world today and women are active participants in these and have qualified for an essential position in these.

However the road to success has not been easy. Several sacrifices and challenges have gone in the making of heroic figures like Mary Kom in boxing and Mamta Kharab, the ‘golden girl’ in women hockey team of India amongst others. But many a time owing to this pressure their nutritional requirement takes a back seat and health is compensated with, which results in several health problems like:

-Light headedness on the field.

-Losing weight irrationally, especially in those who are undernourished.

-Irregular monthly cycle and an early menopause.

-Delay or stunted growth in many young athletes.

Maintaining Balance Between Studies And Game

The biggest challenge in a young player’s life is to strike a balance between academics and sports. While sports are a passion for them, basic academic education cannot be sacrificed with. And both these activities call for dedication and time. To quench your passion you must sacrifice your time and physical comforts, but basic education gives you the cognitive skill and social standing that is imperative in life. So creating a balance between the two worlds becomes important.

Hockey team champs give some advice to budding players to manage and overcome such hurdles.

•    On a foremost note, a fixed schedule is the something common between all sportsmen, irrespective of the game they follow and this is something that will help you balance your studies as well. Plan your month in advance and try to stick to it. It will define your game and help you incorporate other activities including studies as well.

•    Small achievable goals on an everyday basis are far more feasible than hoping to do the impossible. After the game you have limited time and physical stamina but even a small achievement like completing one chapter each day will keep you motivated.

•    Learn to overcome distractions. A player of hockey team Delhi says, ‘the problem with players is they have to live a life of a hermit, with little time to spare’. Thus, whenever you are doing something you don’t necessarily like --such as studies-- then distractions aren’t hard to come by. Social media, smart phones and gadgets are a sheer waste of time that could be invested elsewhere.

•    Learn to say no. there are times when practice session is all about fun. The coach is not free and your friends are interested in something cool and interesting. But ask yourself, will it help your game or your grades? So, learn to say no when you see precious time being eaten up for nothing.

•    Use up the time that is wasted in commutation. While mom drops you to school or sports complex you can easily spend your time revising what you learnt last night.

•    And finally, don’t forget to take care of your nutrition. A balanced and healthy diet will help your game tremendously and improve stamina and concentration level as well.

Master Wrist Shot

The wrist shot is in fact one of the most effective shots in field hockey. Being one of the precise shots it is released fairly quickly owing to the speed and force with which it is hit. This is the shot which a player must engage into learning if he intends to make a place in big and popular hockey teams. True that it is not that as quick as a slap shot is but with proper techniques and with the strength of your upper body, wrist shot can count and pass for one of the most powerful shots.

Delhi Waveriders : Best Hockey Team
Basics

Ensure that you have a proper grip over the stick and learn to have a proper hockey stance as all the professionals in various hockey league India are versed with. To add power to your wrist shot move your lower hand halfway and position the body at a 45-degree angle in regard to the net. Bring your stick behind and place it in the middle of the blade and rotate the wrist to ensure that the blade is tilted over the puck. Shift your weight on your back leg then.

Initiate a sweeping action while you transfer your weight towards the front foot and rotate your body forward. When the stick blade crosses your body, transfer your weight on the stick while pushing it forward with your lower hand and backward with the hand on the top. The stick will be released as it will reach your front foot. In the action make sure that your shoulders are square to the net. If you are a keen observer, you will see this technique several times when the hockey teams are in the ground.

At the time of this release of the puck, the wrist turns putting the puck in action when the blade turns out. Once the puck is released, set the target by pointing the toe of the stick. In addition to this the height of your shot depends on the magnitude by which you rotate the stick.
And just this! Happy sweating!

Why You Should Watch Hockey

Hockey might not be as popular as baseball, cricket or basketball, yet it is one of those sports that require deep knowledge and attention to detail to comprehend. Hockey leagues India have long been trying to push the sport back on the top, and supporting their cause are a few reasons that can definitely motivate a start.

It is fast-paced

Delhi-Waveriders - hockey team
With hockey, it’s a non-stop action on the field. Unlike many other games like baseball and football, there are a very few breaks and on an average a player plays for as long as 45 seconds at a time. It shouldn’t come as a surprise if you find yourself gasping for breath, just like the players.

It takes skill to play the sport

It takes dexterity of another magnitude to understand the game and play it in line with the game ethics. Players need to be in excellent shape and should have a strong base. Being able to handle the equipment with deft and technique is indispensable; the game depends entirely on the sportsperson’s pick on the stick. To be able to chisel a way out through the traffic is another imperative that the player must possess.

It takes physicality to stay in the sport

If you have seen hockey players of Hockey leagues in India, you would know how much of physical fitness is required to dish out a fair game on the ground. Hockey, undeniably, is one of the most physical sports around and at times protection equipment can’t help much with the hitting thing. Blocking pucks requires physical fitness of a magnanimous degree. The players need to be pepped up all the time to play the game with ease and vigour.

Hockey, as it turns out, is the most challenging of all sports in India. And if challenges are your cup of tea, give hockey a shot!

Food For A Player’s Thought

Who understands the importance of a healthy diet than a sportsperson who has to shell it all out for a game that commands nothing less than an eternity of dedication and hard work?

A healthy diet is essential to the daily regimen of a sportsman, for it enables him to gain endurance and energy to sustain the long practise sessions.  Endurance is still an underrated term, what players, especially of national league like in Hockey League India need is a chiselled body that can support their survival and struggle at best. A healthy diet, replete with proteins, vitamins and carbohydrates is a step closer to achieving that.

Delhi Waveriders : best hockey team

Proteins are considered to be the linchpin of all a sportsperson’s diet. Popularly addressed as the building block of muscles and skeleton, proteins are the most essential to a sport’s diet. Chicken and egg whites are a must for all the aggressive players. A vegan counterpart of the a protein rich dirt can comprise of skimmed milk, yoghurt, beans, pulses etc. There might be some players who could be lactose intolerant; protein supplements can pull them out of the rut in that case.

Remaining hydrated throughout the game is not only important, but is a dire necessity too. Be it the leading cricket team league or Hockey leagues in India, players need to gulp down oodles of water to make sure they survive the game on the field. Fainting, which is frequently observed on the field, can easily be shirked away if the player is well hydrated.

Cutting out on excess fats is another thing that should be borne in mind. Consumption of excess fats can cause bloating and lower the stamina of the player. It can meddle with the capacity and strength of the player, hence leading to deteriorating performances.

Cricket Or Hockey? What’s Your Choice

In a country like India, where sports ranging from cricket to Kabaddi are supported, played and applauded, there is no dearth of sports where an enthusiast can’t carve a career in. Besides the unsettling fact that all that we have in India is a gamut of engineers, doctors and chartered accountants, the number that is still penetrating sports, not because sports house a potential similar to other career fields when it comes to making a career, but because they tend to follow their irrevocable passion for the game.

Yet, the world of dreams is as good as shattered when the label of popularity brings the sport down and also people’s love and interest towards it. The several measures that decide the popularity of a sport are measured in terms of attendance figures, TV audience and revenue earned.

Take cricket for instance. That it has escalated into people’s hearts and mind and along with it in the top charts is no enigma. People have witnessed the pages of its success unfolding before their eyes right when India won the 1983 World Cup. Undisputedly, it is among the top three sports in the top 10 big nations of the world. As condescending as it may sound, cricket has somehow pushed out from people’s minds the national sport of India- hockey. I wouldn’t flinch a bit in saying that till a few years back we did have the best hockey team with a barrage of some extremely dedicated and motivated players, and that with appropriate efforts we can still conquer the coveted position of the best hockey team India, but that would be possible only when we encourage the bussing generation to treat hockey the same way as cricket; And also when we use media and the advertising industry to promote hockey that has long been thriving in the backburner.

Hockey can be refurbished as the D Indian sport, once people understand the importance it holds in a broader perspective.

How To Groom Your Child To Become A Hockey Player

Cricket is not the only sport that has taken the youngsters today by a storm. As it turns out, several other sports like hockey, badminton, tennis and basketball are catching the ropes in a proto.  Surprisingly, hockey, which has long represented a rather hazy picture, is reviving life. Many children today are fiercely inspired by some of the best hockey teams in India, and are moving to learn the game. Parents’ support and encouragement, in that case, becomes imperative. Here is how parents can prepare the ground for their children.

Start at an early age

Delhi Waveriders : best hockey team

Be it any activity- sports, dance or music, the early the child starts, the better. He will have years at his hand to capitalize the skills and present them on at a later stage in life. Hence, motivate your child to take up open skates, sticks and plugs. Set the stage and gear them up, right from the beginning.

Enrol your child in a house league

There are various teams that have taken up a franchise of some great hockey teams. Enrolling your child in some grand hockey franchise Delhi will buckle him up and put him in a spot where dedication and hard work will be the sole way out. In a house league, the child will learn invariably more about the game than anywhere else.

Encouragement always helps

There will be a time when everything will appear trashy, when things will not work as planned and the child will be subjected to a downward spiral. While he may think of giving up, you don’t. Encourage him to maintain his composure and talk out his areas of problems. Don’t bombard him with unrealistic solutions though.  Keep calm and help him achieve his dreams. This is probably the time when he needs mental support the most.

Scope Of Hockey In Present Times

Essentially every sportsperson intends to make a name for himself, contributing to his team’s victory. Hockey being a national sport in India has many young and passionate followers, but when it comes to showcasing correct sporting techniques, many lack the required skills owing to the monetary marginalization the sport faces.

Though with the rising number of hockey leagues in India, many sports enthusiasts have got a platform to make it to our national hockey team, the fact remains we in India do not have enough resources to meet the growing popularity of the sport.

Delhi-Waveriders : hockey team India
To help such sportsperson’, here are few tips for them from few members of the hockey team India.
-Realize the importance of a right position for making a shot. A right position ensures a perfect and clean shot.

-Stay ready for the pass. As one of the member of hockey team India states being active on the field have got to do with a healthy mind. It is a mental block better left to the coaches to deal with.

- Since shooting high increases the probability of making a goal, many players make sure they shoot high. But in several hockey leagues in India it has been observed that players go down on their knees, to block the shots, leaving the higher portion of the net unprotected. So it is important to come up with a right action plan.

-It is most advisable to stay fit. Staying fit includes following a daily work out regime and sticking to a healthy diet. It is utmost necessary to remain hydrated and maintaining an optimal amount of water level in body.

My concluding words will be while there are many hearts which beat for hockey, there still remain various obstacles to tackle. The sport strongly needs your constant encouragement and appreciation for the players to bring laurels.

Why Should You Encourage Your Child To Play Hockey

Playing hockey is not just a profession, but pursuing it as a hobby has numerous benefits. When the present generation is busy exploiting social media, defeating aliens in virtual worlds and eating junk, you should be proud of yourself if you could get your child move around in his hockey gear. Excellent exercise, an enjoyable sport, helps in career, builds character and inculcates good habits for life: on top of all this it’s fun to play and watch.

With hockey league in India picking u popularity, more children follow this game crazily. However, if you get your child to play it as well, you will be a happy parent who made the right choice. Following are only a few benefits of playing hockey.

Fitness

This is the case with all the sports but hockey tops the list. Besides a fit and lean body, with just the right amount of muscle fat, hockey doesn’t strain your ligaments like football and cricket. Moreover, beside physical fitness it improves motor coordination as well.
Team Spirit

Joining a hockey team develops the individual in you in a much better way. You learn to trust and protect your mates, which is a skill closing extinction. This helps your child build better relations and be a better human. He also learns to be a team-player by side-lining his own interests and playing for the teams. He becomes tolerant towards others and learns to handle competition in a healthy way.
Strength

The sport builds inner strength of hands and legs improving your child’s stamina, says a professional hockey team’s coach. It will help him in all walks of life even much later when he quits regular play. Academics in particular can be improved as he learns to focus better and overcomes fatigue.
Healthy Habits

The passion for the game keeps them away from junk food, drugs, alcohol and anything gross as ultimately it reflects on their body and hence in game. They realize the importance of regimen and a good lifestyle. Hence, they develop healthy habits for life which are hard to inculcate in children these days.

Work On Mental Strength Besides Skills In Hockey

The game of hockey is brimming with passion. The drive for victory is what keeps the players and spectators hooked to it. With each goal scored and every near miss, the hoot and cry of the crowd varies. Players put in their best efforts and treat each game as a war.

However, in this sport amid the avid passion, there are chances of going overboard with it. Young teams, who lack the training and composure, are often found struggling with some rash players. Such players might be able to create a spectacular show once or twice or they may receive cheering from the crowd, but it doesn’t work if you are aspiring to make it big.

Expert trainers of national hockey team advice youngsters to keep adrenaline under check. Violence is demeaning to the spirit of the sport and themselves. This is why, coaches are advised to keep a check on all this and take strong measures.

Beside the technicalities, learning to keep your composure under pressure and discipline are crucial skills to master, says a successful hockey team trainer. Any friction can turn into a row within a matter of seconds, and such behaviour is not only unacceptable on field but it brings down your own and your team’s reputation. You would certainly be showed out of field, which will chop off your chances of playing well and sharing the fame.

So, in order to overcome this difficulty, coaches should discourage such things from the start. There should be mental exercises and training to keep their calm, even when instigated. They undergo a lot of stress and once they gain the much yearned popularity, fan pressure is an important and ever pressing aspect. Cheering crowd in a full packed stadium and people are holding photos of hockey players, some of which are yours: the thought is invigorating and its desire can build up a lot of pressure. So, something like meditation and mental training drills are necessary for their mental strength.

As it is said, in hockey, the mental mathematics can make or mar the game. Learn to focus and to keep that focus unfaltering till the end. You will avoid pitfalls and perform over and above expected norms. With the ability to perform under pressure you can turn the game on your side just when the opponents begin to give way to pressure and frustration.

Importance of Protective Gear

Hockey is a passionate and energetic game. The dynamic surge equally affects the fans and players. And while you are on the field, you can easily get absorbed in the moment up to an extent that you can risk yours or someone else’s safety.  With its speed and flow, it is impossible and rather foolish to get down on field without sufficient protection.
Delhi Waveriders : hockey leagues in india
So, if you are a parent getting ready to send your child to start his hockey lessons, it is imperative that you buy him proper and good quality protective gears. The trainers of hockey team of India underline the vitality of professional safety gears for young children and suggest that it should not be taken lightly. They are of the view that with young children, the game can go astray and wild any moment which can result in an accident. So you must make sure that the whole world of opportunities that the game has to offer, should be explored with safety.
You must lace them up with sports shoes that are light weight and cosy under the sole. Players of hockey team of India are very particular of their footwear even on personal practice days. Since the game involves foot work and by foot work I mean rigorous foot work, it is important that the feet are cushioned and protected. Sore legs, blisters and sprains shouldn’t get in the way. Besides this, paddings of injury prone parts are also required. Knees and elbows are most prone to nicks and tears, but with continuous rough exposure they can get badly torn. Then shoulder pads and protective cups are also extremely essential.
Moreover, if you are child is playing as the goalie it is outright vital that he takes necessary precautions. You can show him photos of hockey players who are his favourite, dressed in gears to motivate him to put safety first.
Thus, with all these precautions your children will surely hit the mark and perform well.

Hockey: Focus And Physical Training are Equally Important

Champions are not born from a womb but are self-made men, who sweated enough and pushed their limits. No sport can be mastered without these qualities, and hockey is no different. If you like to idealize the winners and performers, you can become like one. However, the catch to it completely lies in how much you are ready to give to your game.

Even for the best hockey teams, it all starts with stern physical training. Build muscle strength, boost your stamina level, and be really quick on your legs. Your success story starts only after this. So, pay your ‘physical dues’ as an athlete and carve a niche for yourself. And trust me; the fruits are worth all that. If you are looking for shortcuts, there aren’t any. Build your technique and master the nitty-gritties of the sport.

However, rigorous physical training also, is a lopsided story. In order to get your name listed amid the big hockey players names you need to focus on the mind game as well. Once you are ready to hit the field for an important match, the only thing that shapes your victory is your mental state. You have already practiced the techniques and fitness drills, but do you have the required focus to implement it. You must have the calmness to overcome and let go of mistakes, a mental reproach of more than a millisecond during the match can be harmful for your game. Moreover, build up the focus required to administer the best goals, correct mistakes and watch out opponents’ moves all at the same time.

Even the best hockey teams admit that it is the psychology that changes games rather than technique. The perfect balance between confidence and brashness needs to be maintained. If you go in too nervous, you will come out bitterly disappointed realizing all your fears have come true.

Hence as a hockey player you should to commit to improve your mental game as well. And hard work is the key to it!

Learning Field Hockey- Beginner to Better

Joining the club of Field Hockey fans and you can count me in. It has been a couple of years since I became a fan. A few years ago, I was unaware about the sport and neither was eager to find out about it in detail leave alone understanding the skills needed to take home the coveted trophy.
I was not much of a sportsperson besides the regular early morning jog, but have come to enjoy the game better after I was invited to be part of the college hockey team. The team welcomed me with enthusiasm and after they learnt I was a newbie to this sport, both coaches gave a few great advices that I shall remember for life.
Delhi-Waveriders ;- hockey leagues in India
I am going to be very honest. When I attended the first practice session, it was a bit difficult to get attuned to it. I was tired, but the motivation kept me going. I focused on catching up with my peers while ensuring that their experience does not affect me. This way I had the opportunity to learn valuable skills from seasoned players who were part of hockey leagues in India. One fact that helped me was that I was not alone. There were others too who were new. I was a bit better off than my new teammates, being athletic, my stamina levels are good.

The coaches were supportive and helpful. Each hockey team player would get personalized attention. The coaches would personally demonstrate how to improve shots. This helped us understand the game and our role in it better. The personal objective was to be able to improve field hockey skills, and where I lacked was balancing the puck with the hockey stick. At first, I was reluctant because I had no idea how to control the puck. After a couple practices, tackling became much fun and I felt like a pro. All I needed was to work on the timing and positioning on field that gave me time-out from injuries.

After many games and a few wins, I believe I still have room for improvement. I started as a beginner, but with time, proper coaching and loads of practice, I have become a better-experienced field hockey player.

Time management is important for those who want to excel in sports-part (2)

In conjunction to last post titled as, “Time management is important for those who want to excel in sports”, follow up of my blog talks about a proper schedule that ought to be followed by aspiring hockey players, who want to have their team, very similar to hockey team India

Prior to the match night: No matter how tiring the day was for you, just make sure that you go to bed by 9 at night. It is recommended that it’s good to meditate for an hour or so, prior to sleeping. This is because once you go to sleep; your body is relaxed at that time and here’s when you will be able to improve your concentration power. Instead of compromising with your sleep in any which way, make sure that you sleep for atleast eight hours to be able to play well, the next day.

Early Morning: once you wake up, doing yoga and meditation seems to be a good option. It aligns your body and further prepares it well for the action. No matter how many hockey player names you count, every hockey player does it, which is good for health. After early morning yoga session, a light jog or brisk walking would be rejuvenating for your body.

Nutrition: post doing yoga and exercises, you can set out for a healthy brunch. Do not mistake of missing your breakfast. This is because breakfast is the most important meal of the day and skipping it in regular intervals is likely to take a toll on overall health.

Hydration: Last on my list, but definitely not the least, make sure that your body is hydrated all day long. This is because if your body will hydrated, you won’t feel enthusiastic and consequentially, you will not be able to concentrate on your matches in any way, which I am sure would be the last preferred thing in your wish list.

To conclude, keep a check over each of these and follow religiously to be able to play well in long run.

Parenting tips for those whose children want to join sports

To put it frankly, sports is the genre, wherein each and every one appreciate, but when it comes to practical life, there are many guardians who actually find this concept of seeking a career in sports. I am certainly not against the fact that this is easy to seek career opportunities in this genre as there’s a high competition and surviving in such a cut throat competition and creating own identity is not that easy as it certainly sounds.

So if your child is interested towards sports and has a passionate attitude to build his career in hockey then i would say instead of making him step back , you should definitely lend him an encouraging hand and familiarize him about loopholes of this genre so that he do not have to suffer in any way. As a guardian, if you will support him and lend your helping hand by telling him that it’s not just that he has to take hockey player names and feel happy, rather he can also be an active participant and if he puts in his best efforts the day is not far when he will also be a part of hockey team india.

Apart from these things, studies is something that cannot be compromised with in any way, thus, familiarize your child with the imperativeness of studies, no matter which sports that he is interested in. tell him that even those who enjoy privileges of getting into hockey team india have studied and still managed to play well. There has to be equilibrium between sports and studies as it is nowhere written that those who are involved in sports has to give up or compromise with their studies in any way.

Just how India could reclaim its global supremacy

One fine day, as I saw the late Mr. Pataudi, nicknamed ‘Tiger’, India's former cricket captain, playing a hockey match at Bombay Gymkhana, I discovered that a couple realized how excellent a hockey player Tiger was and that he could have cut it through as one of the best hockey team player alike. He had long relinquished cricket yet played a dazzling game at the club that afternoon.

Delhi Waveriders :- hockey league India
Later on, talking casually, he remarked, pointing to the lush green industry that the disaster of Indian hockey team is that they do not use lawn such as the one at the gymkhana. He was, in effect, horrified that the worldwide game had changed to astroturf, placing the future of the hockey league India at such a downside.

India earned 8 Olympic gold medal awards in the game of hockey. After 1980, hockey leagues in India have not seen much action and hence, the nation has actually not gained a single hockey gold since then. At the 2012 London Olympics, India's hockey group finished last in a field. Why was a daunting question?

Likewise tennis players adapt to turf and hard courts within a span of a few months and especially between the French Open held in May, Wimbledon held in July and the US Open held in September, so could the expert hockey gamers of India. Turf is an all-natural surface of the game. It tests the ability of players not just their toughness.

India's hockey authorities, fractured by domestic competitions, have slightly worldwide influence. It is India's company market, with an interest in future Olympic gold awards that have to lead the project to restore organic lawns as one of two alternate playing surface areas of selection in future worldwide hockey events. The new Hockey League India might establish the instance in its next version. Sponsorships for industry hockey competitions would comply with.

India has started winning Olympic awards in specific sporting activities though yet none in team sporting activities like hockey. That will change. In India much less in comparison to the major populace has access to the centres, health and nutrition and training athletes from Western nations. In the sports-access terms, the Indian population is equivalent to that of New Zealand's. It is no embarrassment to have won fewer awards than smaller, richer nations. Yet it is an embarrassment if we do not offer hockey, an equal opportunity.

Delhi-Waveriders :- Hockey Team of India

Even if you are just 15 or have stepped in your 20s, you can put on weight. But it is nowhere written that fit and healthy body is to be celebrated and if a person is obese, it is to be condoned. Hockey is hockey not just for legendary players but loyal supporters

Hockey fans have their own niche amongst sports lovers. Unlike other games where supporters would be loud and boisterous in the stadium and forget the game when it’s over, an ardent fan of the sport would never really part from their passion. They would even watch old matches of hockey team of India to refresh those memories. Most of the fans are players themselves or have played the game at some point of time.  They believe that in order to truly relish the game one would actually have to grasp the stick, breathe in the fresh air and feel the splurge of adrenaline the game is capable of pumping, only then can you become a true follower.

Delhi-Waveriders :-photos of hockey players
They would keep photos of hockey players pinned up at their workspace or bed post and would find time to either watch the local match or hit the ground themselves. They will go absolutely crazy upon hearing the word ‘Goal’ but are otherwise, tolerant, fervent and disciplined, in fact these are a few qualities that this game builds up in its players early in their lives.

As it is rightly said, any art form, sport or mode of entertainment is alive till when it has ardent  followers and passionate practitioners. Most of the primitive sports that were once an all-time favourite aamongst Indian masses like Dangal, Kho Kho, Gilli Danda are on the verge of extinction and have certainly lost any substantial representation amongst the masses. Though it flourished much later than that, was also on the verge of withering away after its glorious past came to a halt. However, it is because of its loyal patrons who had kept the souvenirs alive that the sport has seen resurrection. It is the sole reason why the sport could make it back amidst the Indian masses with modern versions such as HHIL. Thus, not only the legendary players but also the avid and loyal hockey fans should be respected for their contribution to the sport.

Do not allow your child to stare at LCD screens throughout the day

It is acknowledged that it’s a daunting task to make a child move away from the big LCD screen, if your child is one of those then instead of worrying over it much, you can find out an alternative against it. Instead of allowing him to stare at the LCD screen throughout the day, you can offer him to get into any of the interesting sports such as hockey or tennis. This is because these days children are less inclined to those indoor games and are very much enthusiastic towards outdoor games. So you can give them this liberty to join an academy in the sports where you feel that your child’s interest lies.

Delhi-Waveriders :-hockey team of India
It has been observed that majority of children are taking in keen interest in hockey. It’s a great alternative and your child would thoroughly get entertained as well. If you feel that your child is genuinely interested in either hockey or any other spots, make sure that being a guardian you do not step back in lending a helping hand to your child. This is because you never know that one day you get to see your tiny tot as a member of hockey team of India. You never know your child’s passion in sports will enable him to get clicked with Indian hockey team, you can proudly say pointing your son in photos of hockey players that here he goes.

The best of Indian Hockey

Delhi Waveriders :-Indian hockey player
The sport of field hockey fills up quite a few pages in the rich and glorifying parts of Indian history. India has time and again produced legendary hockey players for the world to witness. Dhyan Chand is definitely the first name that comes to mind while speaking about legends, he was nick named ‘the wizard’ for his magical performances on the field. With an unbeaten record of more than 400 goals scored in his international hockey carrier. Dhyan Chand is undoubtedly the best hockey player that ever lived. Such was his excellence that it left the opponents doubting whether his stick was made of wood or not? Another fabulous Indian hockey player is none other than Dhanraj Pillay. He is arguably the best forward in world of hockey till date, best known for his dribbling skills. It was said that Dhanraj Pillay was so quick with the ball that he could penetrate any defence line with players considerably younger to him.  The current flock of players also have massive potential and players like Sandeep Singh, Affan Yousuf and Yuvraj Walmiki seem promising.

The Indian men’s field hockey team held the title of the best hockey team in the world for a long period of time. It was an era when India won 6 consecutive gold medals in the Olympics; even today India holds the record of the most successful hockey team in the history of Olympics with 8 gold medals. In the 80s India started to lose grip on the game and is still going through a rough patch. Currently, according to the International Hockey Federation (FIH) ranking system the position of top International Men’s hockey team is held by Australia and in women’s category the title is held by Netherlands, whereas Indian men and women teams are at 8th and 13th position respectively.

When I batted for the Hockey team of Delhi

It was when the final score line read in favour of the hockey team I am crazy like hell about that I felt my breath back. And it was just as much as I had expected, having cheered the hockey team of Delhi every step of the way through to the final destination. Of course, it had to do with the love for the game, Delhi, and a name tied to it--John of course!

Delhi Waveriders :-hockey team of delhi
I have always been the one for close finishes and what more than result by penalty. It’s the ultimate thing for every hockey team to come up trumps in a match that hangs by a thread. And when it’s the title match, I guess even John would agree. His making a dash for the players at the final whistle bears it out for me.

It may sound insanely paradoxical, but I failed to pick up even a thing or two about the crowd there. Except the only way to vent to match their decibels was to vent my lungs out!  Which I did all the time! The one thing I was no match for is stripes—hardly a face I can think of (except a bum like me) was not striped. That serves me a fan lesson and would help me save some of the ‘out of the league’ looks the next time.

Credit must also go to the Punjab team for putting up what can only be called a show of skills and efforts, but they met their match on the day. Big cheers for the hockey team of Delhi for making us all live the moment, and everybody who played a part in the Hockey India League bringing clamour back at the centre stage. That includes John by the way!!

Wave Riders :- photos of hockey players
Hockey fans do not stop believing and the success of Hero Hockey India League (HHIL) is another shining example of it. The tournament has proved everyone wrong who thought it would not be able to attract audiences back to the stadium. Young Indian hockey players could not have asked for a bigger or better opportunity. They’ve got the right platform to show their skills to both the selection committee and spectators.

Hockey team Delhi has included some of the brightest young players to have the right balance. These players have got a dream debut by playing alongside the most popular hockey players in the world. These kinds of game would definitely prepare them to play and perform in big matches. It would help them to cope with the mental and physical pressure and strengthen them to compete at the top level.

Nurturing and Preparing Indian Hockey Players

There have been a plenty of positives to take from the recently concluded tournament. The nation has got its next batch of players who would represent it at the international level. It has also brought optimism among players playing at the school and state level. They can draw courage and inspiration from these players and keep on performing for respective teams. It would strengthen their belief in
the system.

Hockey Team Delhi and the Future of Club Hockey

The club-based hockey culture is new in the country. It is a proven model in other parts of the world. Several other sports like football have been following it quite successfully. Hockey fans showed their love and commitment by booking seats for the second season in advance. They’re waiting for an opportunity to show it and HHIL gave them the platform to support their teams and players. They want to see the national hockey team sitting at the top of ranking table.

The revival of Indian Hockey

Hockey in India had gone through various phases. From the single dominant country prior to the 1950s, India went almost out of the picture in the early years of this millennium. The last decade marked the ultimate lows of the sport marked by incidents such as protests of the Indian Hockey Players against the board, failing to even qualify for the Olympics, open fight between two organizations, the Indian Hockey Federation and Hockey India, to have the control over the sport and ultimately leading to the International Olympic committee’s intervention. But things might be on the verge of changing. As the Hockey India took over the responsibility of governing the sport, it quickly sprang into action, setting up the IPL-style Hockey India League (HIL).

Delhi Waveriders :- Waveriders delhi
Though there were previous attempts to organize a franchisee hockey league in India (even before the success of IPL) such as the ESPN Star-IHF owned Premier Hockey League (PHL) and the Nimbus-IHF owned World Series Hockey (WSH), the Hockey India League quickly grabbed attention with its success of finding corporate sponsorship with the likes of Star Sports India, Hero Honda and many others.

Taking cue from the success of IPL, the teams and the players were auctioned. To everyone’s surprise, it was the not the foreign players who earned more, but the Indian Hockey player, Sardar Singh sold for $78000 to the hockey team Delhi Waveriders. The inaugural season in 2013 drew moderate crowds and not much fanfare, the crowds and revenues were on the rise for the 2014 season which is presently underway.

With the addition of Bhubaneswar based Kalinga Warriors this season, the total teams competing for the championship has risen up to 6. Though the defending champions Ranchi Rhinos are still very much in the hunt for the cup, it is the Waves-group owned Hockey team Delhi Waveriders, who are favorites to win the cup this year after missing out in the finals of last season.

But not all is good with Hockey India League. One major disappointing factor is that all the franchisees are concentrated on the Northern part of India. The southernmost franchisee itself is Bhubaneswar. Though the fact remains that the city teams of Chennai and Bangalore were originally planned, but went unsold in the auction, it is the responsibility of the Hockey India to take the sport to all corners of the country. The Hockey India League may not have been a huge success as its cricketing counterpart, but if managed properly, it could make Hockey a mainstream sport again in this country.

Summary: Hockey, the ancient sport that was a part and parcel of India has stood up and taken a rebirth with complete governance by IHF and corporate sponsorship with increase in drive to HIL.

1928 – 1956: Glorious Saga of Indian Hockey

Hockey has found its origin in India during the time of British ruling. It is also known as one among the oldest games for last 1200 years. This game has seen a lot of developments by passing through Arabs, Greeks, Romans and Ethiopians. Some people were used to play this game only for fun while for others it was a good practice of becoming a warrior. The history of hockey team in India is worth mentioning.

Delhi Wave Riders :- Delhi Waveriders
The term ‘hockey’ has its origin from France. There is a word in French, hocquet which means shepherds crook. All the modern rules for playing hockey were introduced by London Hockey Association in 1886. In India, hockey was introduced by the British Army. The Beighton Cup was the first major hockey tournament in India. In 1895 it was organized in Kolkata. We can still find the photos of hockey players of that time.

In the year 1896, once again a tournament was organized for hockey team in India. This tournament
was named as Aga Khan Cup. After that hockey came into full gear making remarkable presence in international events like Afro-Asian Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Hockey Champions Challenge, World Cup, Olympic Games etc.

A recent achievement was to organize in India in Delhi in the year 2010. The time period between 1928 and 1956 is considered to be the Golden Period of Indian Hockey. We can see its golden history captured in the photos of hockey players. It was in the year 1928 when India won its first gold medal in Olympics.

Without a second thought, India was a champion of hockey till the year 1956. It is an amazing fact that India has won continuous six gold medals in Olympics which is a record still unbroken. Also, Indian hockey has a record of winning consecutive 24 matches during the years between 1924 and 1956.

This record is also unbroken till now. Besides that some other remarkable achievements by Indian hockey team are winning a gold medal in World Cup, 2 gold medals in Asian Games and 2 more gold medals in Asia Cup.

Some dominating names in Indian Hockey history are Balbir Singh, Roop Singh and Major Dhyanchand. Dhyanchand is the most talked about personality in Indian Hockey. In 1956 he was awarded with Padma Bhushan, for being a legendary player of Indian Hockey who managed to bag three gold medals in Olympics.

The Qualities of a Best Coach

A good coach is capable of making best hockey team the. There are certain things that are expected from a coach which really makes him worth to be called as the same. A great coach is something that can really make the team play to its best. He should be able to inspire each and every member of the team so that they start playing to their maximum. There are various traits that are looked in a coach which can make him really great than just being good.
Delhi-Waveriders :- Indian Hockey Player

Humility is the first factor that can make a great coach. Most of the coaches want their team to win every matches they play, irrespective of the circumstances. This kind of mentality from the coaches can only make it really hard for the Indian hockey player to play well. The coach should be able to consider the team and should not have the mentality to evaluate him through the number of trophies that his team made under his training. If the coach is supportive and provides the adequate opportunities for the players, then there is a possibility for the team to win the match easily. A stress less environment is something that is necessary for making the team play well.

If you really want be a best Indian hockey player then you should be able to get coaching of a great coach who is having the time and patience to understand the players. A great coach will have adequate time for understanding each and every player in the team. The coach should also listen to the players with patience and respect so that he get the same back from them. If the coach is much arrogant and tries to implement something then the whole team can get collapsed and they won’t even be able to play well.

The communication that the coach has with the team members is an essential factor that can keep a good binding between the team members. Best hockey team can be possible only when the coach teaches the players to have good communication with each other. The team should be told that the player who is weak in the team determines the strength of the team and the each one should support the weaker player. When the coach has a kind of passion towards the game and the team, then the players can feel it a better experience and make their team play well despite of any adversities and flaws.
